Pages: 320 pages Publication Date: 2009 Publisher: www.ellenjmchenry.com/ Review Updated: 4/28/2014 Reviewer: Alessa Giampaolo Keener, M.Ed. Mapping the World With Art, not to be confused with Mapping the World By Heart, is one of the most popular homeschool geography curriculums on the market. The concept is simple and easy to implement: Read a 2-page mini-history lesson and then draw a map about the historical and geographical region. For the less artistic, you can watch 6 hours of instructional DVDs to help with the drawing and painting portions of the lesson. As you work your way through 30 history and art lessons, you get a sense of time and place in the world. With 100 pages of supplemental activities, you can easily expand your lessons with videos, hands-on projects, and even worksheets so you can create a truly meaningful middle school social studies credit. The curriculum culminates by having kids create a complete map of the world in any art medium they choose. No doubt exists that you’ll gain invaluable art experience from this…

Growing With Grammar Content: Grammar Grade(s): 1st – 8th Perspective: Secular Prep Time: Minimal Teacher Manual: Yes Teacher Involvement: Minimal Cost: $$ || ? Pages: 216 Publication Date: 2006 Publisher: www.growingwithgrammar.com Review Last Updated: May 27, 2017 Common Core Aligned: No ** From the Publisher’s Website: ** Each level contains approximately 108 lessons. It assumes the grammar course is being taught three times per week during a 36- week school year, with one lesson taught per workday, including a learning portion and an exercise portion, which reinforces the concepts taught in the learning portion of the lesson. For Levels 1 and 2, the learning and exercise portions are combined into one book for each level. For Levels 3 through 8, the learning portion is contained in a separate Student Manual, with the exercises being contained in a separate Student Workbook. There is plenty of review placed throughout both the learning and exercise portions of the grammar course. The answer keys for all levels are separate from the Student Workbook. Sentence diagramming is taught beginning with Level 3. We believe sentence diagramming is a great tool, which assists the student in actually understanding the parts of speech and how they relate…

Pages: 153 Publication Date: 2013 (2nd Edition) Publisher: www.alabacus.com Updated Review: May 6, 2014 From RightStart Mathematics’ website: This unique hands-on program de-emphasizes counting, uses visualization of quantities, and provides strategies (visual pictures) for learning the facts. Understanding and problem solving are emphasized throughout the curriculum. The primary learning tool is the AL Abacus, a specially designed two-sided abacus that is both kinesthetic and visual. The AL Abacus is grouped in fives and tens for quick recognition of quantities. Children develop visual strategies as they use this manipulative. The back side of the AL Abacus teaches place value to the thousands. Practice is provided with math card games, minimizing review worksheets and eliminating stressful flash cards. These games provide interesting and varied repetition that is needed for the automatic responses to the facts. More importantly, these games provide an application for new information and create hours of fun learning math facts and concepts. The RightStart™ Mathematics homeschool program is set up with levels, rather than grades, so that your child can begin at the proper level…
